LINDA LODER
I came to Art rather late in life, having been a full time teacher for 30 years as well as working my way through motherhood and education. When i retired in 1999, I decided to combine my love of travel and the English countryside with my photography by painting the scenes photographed on our many trips to England and Europe.
I paint what touches me - landscapes, scenes of historical buildings, animals and scenes reminiscent of times and moments enjoyed in our journeys. I took courses from Robert Hyndman and the Ottawa School of Art but rely mostly on observation and passion for the subject matter.
I realize that the love of what I see gives me a reason to paint and the technique follows. I like oil because of the vibrancy of colour one can achieve as well as the layering effects of glazing. I also like the depth and texture possible by varying the amount of paint one puts on the canvas. This provides a variety of painting experiences and helps me create the effects that I want.
