DANIEL D. ST-CYR
Since high school, I was interested in art. Drawing/sketching led me to Graphic design at Algonquin College of Applied Arts in Ottawa. 2010 was my transition year, when i became a full time artist painter. Self
taught, oil, acrylic, using many brushes, I mix colors to get required tones, and join classic & impressionist style. Applying main shapes on canvas, “aux carreaux” method or freehand, I try to create joyful feelings in my
work. I am often inspired by the play of light on water, being transported to another moment, and sometimes introduce figures, flowers, animals, letting the viewer imagine his/her own story. I can start with a tiny scribble on paper, and develop my idea, adjusting composition as I go. When needed, using a flat brush like a knife, I often mix vivid colors directly on canvas or wood support. Gel, paste or thick paint for relief can help me get the desired effect. With a dash of intuition, i also improvise on my composition, and work for an interesting harmonious result. I think art should bring you good feelings that contributes to a good health. For me, happiness is applying color to a surface to create art.
